Hot water where it belongs: reliable, safe and environmentally friendly
Patented Roth hybrid heat interface unit sets new standards in terms of convenience, efficiency and durability. Fluctuating water temperatures, limescale deposits and unhygienic admixtures are now a thing of the past: Roth Werke is taking decentralised hot water supply to a new level with its new hybrid heat interface unit.
Efficiency, convenience and durability as well as the conscious use of resources were at the centre of the development. The integrated electric instantaneous water heater with an output of 11 kW provides the water temperature required for domestic hot water preparation in the heating supply circuit when it is needed - precisely, quickly, reliably and without compromise.
Roth's new solution with its 11 kVA electrical output is always below the approval requirement of the grid operator with 12 kVA in accordance with Section 19 of the Low Voltage Ordinance (NAV) and the technical connection regulations (TAB) of the energy supplier. This means that only registration with the grid operator is required, but not their approval for operation.
This is realised by the heart of the new Roth hybrid heat interface unit, the innovative and patented controller of the electric instantaneous water heater. This ensures fast and constant control of the required heating water temperature with precise power adjustment to the process - right on time and as required.
Thanks to the generous range of services offered by the Roth hybrid heat interface unit, the simultaneous use of several tapping points in the home, such as the shower and kitchen, is possible without any problems - and at constant hot water temperatures. This means that consistently hot water is always available exactly when it is needed - without compromising on performance for a carefree and pleasant showering experience.
Roth hybrid heat interface unit: Reliable hot water heating with maximum efficiency
The hybrid heat interface unit offers a reliable hot water supply for every flat with maximum efficiency. With a hot water draw-off rate of 13 litres per minute at an outlet temperature of 50 °C, a constant hot water supply is always guaranteed - and with a heating water temperature of just 45 °C at the inlet to the heat interface unit. The low heating water temperatures offer numerous advantages: noticeable energy savings with the same level of comfort, lower distribution and radiation losses for optimised energy use and the integration and efficient operation of regenerative heat generators and heating networks. At the same time, the life expectancy of heat generators, especially the heat pump, is increased because lower heating flow temperatures are provided all year round. .
"These features not only ensure a noticeable reduction in costs, but above all make an active contribution to greater energy efficiency and thus to the conservation of resources while focussing on user-friendliness," says Stefan Schneider from Roth Product Management.
No more calcification
Limescale deposits as thin as just one millimetre can reduce heat transfer by up to 20 per cent, which leads to a considerable reduction in the efficiency of electrical heating systems. This is also where Roth Werke's innovation comes in: Instead of working in drinking water, the electric instantaneous water heater in Roth's new patented hybrid heat interface unit works reliably in heating water that is regulated much more tightly and is therefore safely protected against deposits and corrosion. "We have faced the familiar challenges - and mastered them with this innovative solution," says Product Manager Stefan Schneider. The smart technology prevents any impairment the flow rate and heat transfer, thereby significantly extending the service life and maintaining the functionality of the entire system. This ensures a stable supply with a constant tap performance. Calcification is a thing of the past, as are the associated functional impairments and problems: "No more energy losses, insufficient hot water temperatures, supply losses due to constricted pipe cross-sections or functional failures of control components due to excessive thermal load," summarises Stefan Schneider.
Hygienic water heating of the highest quality: durable, safe and smart
High tapping capacities are a real challenge in hybrid decentralised DHW heating, which is usually met with an unhygienic admixing circuit. Roth also addresses this issue with its innovative technology. The domestic hot water is heated to 50 °C in a single flow in the heat exchanger, which has a constant temperature of 55 °C. This ensures hygienic operation and reliably and naturally prevents the growth of microorganisms.
Another advantage: "With this solution, we also offer the option of a type of thermal disinfection by selecting an operating programme in the controller. This allows higher setpoint temperatures to be realised for a maximum of 15 minutes on the instantaneous water heater without increasing the heating water temperatures on the primary side," explains Product Manager Stefan Schneider, "and after the 15 minutes have elapsed, the controller returns to the original operating mode.
At the same time, the Roth solution scores with an exceptional service life. This is because the high-quality heating elements guarantee first-class quality without any loss of performance. The heating elements do not have drinking water flowing through them, but rather heating water flowing around them, which prevents the flow from being impaired. As a result, the output remains constant and stable.
The patented control concept of the Roth hybrid heat interface unit is equipped with sophisticated control and safety functions that recognise faulty or unwanted operating states at an early stage and reliably prevent them. The high-quality safety concept includes sensor break detection integrated in the controller and a 3-phase safety temperature limiter (STB), which is activated in the event of overtemperature and interrupts the circuit.
In addition, the flow switch ensures that the controller switches off the instantaneous water heater immediately in the event of a standstill or interrupted operating status and in the event of faults to ensure maximum safety and thus effectively protect the entire system from malfunctions.
"We combine innovative technology with intelligent, forward-looking security measures - for the good feeling that technology and security are a team," emphasises Stefan Schneider. In addition, the system complies with protection class IP65, which guarantees excellent protection against dust and water.

Multiple use of water - intelligent and environmentally friendly
Roth presents innovative solutions for water recycling and purification as well as rainwater utilisation in its water cycle. Water is the basis of all life: one of the most valuable resources on our planet. Roth bundles solutions for customised saving, recycling and purification of this precious commodity under the motto "W-efficiency - multiple use of water" in the Roth water cycle. These systems enable the resource-saving utilisation and treatment of water and offer pioneering solutions for private and commercial applications.
The company can look back on decades of expertise in the development, production and marketing of products and system solutions in the fields of water and wastewater treatment technology. "We have been concentrating our expertise in this area in a separate division, Environmental Systems, for many years," says Managing Partner Dr Anne-Kathrin Roth, "Environmental Systems are part of Roth's DNA and are of strategic importance." With a view to the challenges of the future and the effects of climate change, Roth is continuing to develop its solutions under the banner of "water efficiency". In doing so, the Central Hessian manufacturer is also relying on the experience, expertise and specific products of its international companies. In addition to two German locations, the environmental systems are being driven forward at Roth in Spain and the USA in particular, where the company also has its own production facilities. "In addition to rainwater harvesting and storage, our systems now cover the entire water cycle: drinking water, grey water and black water," explains Dr Anne-Kathrin Roth, "we have standardised and customisable solutions for all three areas in our portfolio, both for residential buildings and for industrial applications."
Material and process score with numerous advantages
Whether rainwater tanks or containers for treating grey water: all containers developed by Roth and manufactured worldwide using the blow moulding process from the high-performance material polyethylene high density (PE-HD) are characterised by their excellent durability. They are impact-resistant, dimensionally stable, food-safe, easy to transport and install, easy to clean if necessary and extremely durable. Roth has also developed a special flange technology for the modular, absolutely secure hygienic connection of the containers.
Water recycling as the key to sustainable resource management
The Roth AquaServe water recycling system sets new standards in the reuse of so-called grey water from showers, hand basins, bathtubs or swimming pool filter systems. With the Roth solution, the germ-free and odourless recycling of used water is carried out using state-of-the-art technology and a membrane filter; no chemicals are used. The water treated here can be reused for applications such as toilet flushing, garden irrigation or the washing machine.
Compact system saves 12,000 litres of drinking water per month
At the ISH, Roth is presenting a compact system that is suitable for a single-family household, for example. It enables the recycling of 400 litres of grey water per day. The household can thus save around 12,000 litres of drinking water per month. A look at the figures shows what this means: according to international organisations, a person needs at least 20 litres of water per day - for drinking, cooking and hygiene, not including the cultivation and production of food. For comparison: the average daily water consumption in Germany per person per day is 130 litres. "So we can see that our system can save the vital, minimum drinking water requirement of far more than 20 people per day," explains Dr Thomas Reis, Managing Director of Roth Ibérica, where system solutions for grey water recycling - but also for desalinating seawater, for example - have been gaining in importance for many years in view of the consequences of climate change and increasing drought events.
The Roth AquaServe systems also score points with their virtually maintenance-free operation, simple installation and the option of being used above or below ground. "Our aim is to use modern technologies to offer needs-based solutions that ensure that the valuable resource of water is not simply disposed of, but recycled and reused sensibly," sums up Dr Anne-Kathrin Roth.
Utilising what comes from the sky: Complete packages for rainwater utilisation
Collecting and utilising rainwater can also save valuable drinking water. Roth offers complete package solutions for rainwater utilisation for underground or above-ground installation.
The combination of rainwater storage and recycled water in the Roth Twinbloc, a flat storage tank that guarantees stable water quality thanks to underground storage, is particularly innovative. This can save up to 45 per cent of drinking water and waste water: "A significant contribution to conserving resources and reducing costs and environmental pollution," affirms Dr Anne-Kathrin Roth.
Collecting pits and small sewage treatment plants
If there is no connection to the local sewage system, Roth collection pits are used. They store the waste water safely until it is extracted by the vacuum truck. A wide range of accessories such as a suction device, a level indicator or the venting mushroom complete the range of products from Roth Werke, which has decades of experience in working with the specialised and wholesale trade as well as gardening and landscaping companies. Roth Umwelttechnik's portfolio also includes infiltration and treatment systems, retention tanks and small sewage treatment plants.
Holistic system solutions for maximum efficiency
Roth water efficiency systems are part of a comprehensive range that offers perfectly harmonised components. This also includes heat pump systems, drinking and heating water storage tanks as well as surface heating and cooling systems. All systems are designed in such a way that they are customised to suit requirements and guarantee maximum energy efficiency and user comfort.

Only at Roth: Climate-neutral pipe production
Roth X-Pert S5+ system pipes are manufactured CO2-neutrally and are completely recyclable. Roth Werke is once again sending out a strong signal for climate protection: the Roth X-PERT S5+ system pipe is produced on state-of-the-art machines using 100 per cent CO2-free green electricity from selected renewable energy sources. This underlines the company's commitment to sustainable, resource-saving production processes.
Roth relies on self-produced photovoltaic electricity and certified green electricity from the utility grid to supply energy to the production facilities and the cooling circuit, as well as for the battery-powered industrial trucks. "This combination enables environmentally and climate-friendly production that uses as few resources as possible," says Sascha Allissat, Member of the Management Board of Roth Werke.
Utilising process heat
Another important contribution to energy efficiency is the innovative recovery of process heat from plastics processing. Two high-performance water/water heat pumps utilise this energy to air-condition the production hall. Thanks to these measures, Roth saves 100 percent of direct and indirect CO2 emissions compared to conventional production using the German electricity mix and heating the hall with fossil fuels.
Another plus point for climate friendliness: Roth X-PERT S5+ production does not require any cross-linking chemicals or further energy-intensive processing steps that could cause additional local emissions.
Highly flexible, durable system pipes can be recycled
The highly flexible Roth X-PERT S5+ system pipes consist of five layers. They are designed with a safety plus for a continuous temperature load of 70 °C and a short-term temperature load of 100 °C - in other words, they are extremely durable. They are also easy to recycle, both for recycling after decades of use and for the reuse of production waste. "We process the latter completely internally and reuse it for other purposes," explains Sascha Allissat.
Climate protection is a central component of our corporate values
Roth Werke has been certified in accordance with the EMAS environmental management system since 2010. "As a family business, it is very important to us to take our social responsibility into account, which is why we are pursuing an ambitious climate protection programme and have developed our own environmental management system. Resource conservation is an integral part of our corporate philosophy," emphasises Managing Director Christin Roth-Jäger.
Key points of the ambitious EMAS environmental programme are aimed at continuously improving sustainability, especially in production processes, and thus further reducing the ecological footprint. "If you want to rely on climate-friendly products for new builds or renovations, you've come to the right place," emphasises Sascha Allissat, "our CO2 neutral system pipe proves that we can make a decisive contribution to greater sustainability and resource conservation with intelligent solutions and state-of-the-art technologies."
