Opus: Prize winners 2002 - 2007

Award winners for 2007:

"Lighting design" 2007:
Rolf Wenzel, Lichtdesigner

The Opus Award in this category went to Rolf Wenzel for his lighting of the "The Ten Tenors" concert. This concert was recorded live at the time and published on DVD. With his design for the show and the use of modern lighting techniques, Wenzel delivered an unusual concept for classical events, which set off both the ensemble and the whole orchestra perfectly.
Speech of congratulation given by: Dr. Walter Wehrhan, Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine "Production Partner"

"Stage design" 2007:
Hans Schavernoch, stage designer
For the production of the opera "Salomé" at the Bavarian State Opera, Hans Schavernoch designed a clear, simple set, which, with its movable frames, opened up a wide range of staging opportunities. The frames were lit with invisible LED ramps, so that the most varied situations could be staged, ranging from small rooms to wide panoramas.
Speech of congratulation given by: Tom Becker, Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine "pma Production Management"

"Technical realisation" 2007:
Klaus Willemsen, Project manager Professional Systems, Sennheiser

Klaus Willemsen took responsibility for the finals of the 2006 "Eurovision Song Contest" in Athens on behalf of Sennheiser. A specialist in wireless technology, he created for the show a wireless microphone network and monitoring system for the singers, musicians, and show hosts and for relays backstage. With 54 microphone channels and 16 monitoring channels for wireless monitoring, the largest musical event in the world was an unmitigated challenge, not least as far as microphone technology is concerned. Speech of congratulation given by: Jürgen Kupczik, Director, Prolight + Sound

"Sound design" 2007:
Bodo Schulte, sound designer and sound engineer

Bodo Schulte was in charge of sound design for the "Tag und Nacht" tour of the German band, Schiller in 2006. The band set new standards in live-performance with their show and the 4.1 surround sound that went with it. Schulte ensured a perfect spatial listening experience using two parallel hard-disk recording systems in tandem. These functioned as surround panners and sent the signals back to the mixing desk.
Speech of congratulation given by: Tom Becker, Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine "pma Production Management"

"Jury's special prize" 2007:
Harald "CoDuck" Meidt, co-owner of g&d live: motive GmbH

Harald "CoDuck" Meidt received the jury's special prize this year for his "many years of ground-breaking work in the scenography of the most varied productions from pop concerts to product presentations" as the judges say in justifying their choice. Meidt, who began his career as a technician with BAP, the Cologne rock band, has proved himself over a period of many years to be a stylistically confident and innovative pair of hands when it comes to event planning. Since 1995, Harald Meidt has been a partner at g&d live:motive, a full service agency for live marketing in Wuppertal. He has been involved with the VPLT (Association for Lighting, Sound and Event Technology) of which he is vice chairman, since 1997.
